Last Thursday, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Baden-Württemberg showcased their successfully implemented AI projects during the Demo Day hosted by the AI Lab Heidelberg. Fifty guests from business, politics, public relations, and the startup scene gathered at the Business Development Center Heidelberg to gain insights into the practical application of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The evening was themed: “How SMEs Use AI Today.” Seven companies shared their experiences in developing and implementing AI solutions – discussing challenges, concrete benefits, and lessons learned from collaborating with startups.
After a warm welcome by Dr. André H. R. Domin (Technology Park Heidelberg GmbH) and Mascha Eckhardt from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor, and Tourism Baden-Württemberg, Paul Becker, Head of the AI Lab Heidelberg, opened the presentations. In two presentation sessions, companies vividly demonstrated how AI creates measurable value in logistics, manufacturing, quality assurance, and mobility – including time and cost savings as well as enhanced customer satisfaction.
Award for Best AI Project
As the highlight of the evening, the best AI project of the program was awarded. The prize went to Junker Filter GmbH, represented by Managing Director Julian Nuss, for their innovative AI application in the field of knowledge management using generative AI.
Heidelberg as a Hub for AI Applications
Over the past years, Heidelberg has evolved into a central innovation hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Baden-Württemberg. With its robust scientific landscape and a growing number of technology companies and startups, the city provides ideal conditions for the development and implementation of cutting-edge AI solutions. The AI Lab Heidelberg, located within the Technology Park Heidelberg, plays a key role in connecting SMEs and startups, offering practical support, and fostering synergies between business and research.
The event underscored that companies from across Baden-Württemberg rely on Heidelberg's initiatives and AI startups when implementing AI projects.
