Technologiepark Heidelberg Receives EFRE Funding for Innovation Infrastructure in LAB22
Heidelberg, May 7, 2026 – Technologiepark Heidelberg is pleased to receive funding through the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE). The state of Baden-Württemberg is supporting municipal innovation infrastructures with a total of approximately €9.4 million. This funding will also benefit the LAB22 building and the readyLAB22 currently being established within it by Technologiepark Heidelberg.
Through this funding, the state is specifically strengthening locations that enable innovation, technology transfer, and business growth. LAB22 at Technologiepark Heidelberg, located in the Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip), was specifically developed for companies in the fields of life sciences, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and high-tech, offering modern laboratory and office spaces in close proximity to research institutions, startups, and industry partners.
The new readyLAB22 will provide immediately usable laboratory infrastructure for young companies and growth-stage businesses. Its goal is to enable technology-oriented startups in particular to gain rapid access to professional research and development facilities — without long lead times or high upfront investments.
For many years, Technologiepark Heidelberg has successfully provided tailored space and infrastructure solutions for technology-oriented startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Smaller office and laboratory spaces for young companies are already available at the Business Development Center (BDC). With readyLAB22, this offering is now being strategically expanded, closing an important gap in the innovation ecosystem.
“The funding is a strong signal for Heidelberg as a center of innovation and confirms our approach of creating optimal conditions for technology-driven companies,” explains Marc Massoth, current Managing Director of Technologiepark Heidelberg and Head of the Office for Economic Development of the City of Heidelberg. “With readyLAB22 in LAB22, we are strategically expanding our infrastructure and creating an offering that enables companies to take the next growth step within our innovation network.”
In the future, Technologiepark Heidelberg will therefore be able to offer the right infrastructure solution for every stage of a company’s development: from BioLabs Heidelberg, which provides co-working spaces and fully equipped laboratory benches for very early-stage startups, to the new readyLAB22, and further to the spaces in the BDC and LAB22 for established startups and SMEs. This allows companies to grow through multiple stages of development while remaining in Heidelberg and benefiting from the close network connecting science, research, and industry.
LAB22 is considered one of the key building blocks in the development of Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip), which has evolved since 2019 into an important hub for digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and life sciences. Numerous innovative companies are already based there, with additional construction and development projects planned.
The ERDF funding will enable Technologiepark Heidelberg to further expand its innovation infrastructure and sustainably strengthen the competitiveness of the region. At the same time, Heidelberg will continue to enhance its profile as an internationally visible hub for science, technology, and entrepreneurship.
