BioLabs move into new location LAB22 of Heidelberg Technology Park

Heidelberg DE / Boston-Cambridge, MA, USA, August 2, 2023: press release

BioLabs, the premier international network of shared lab and office facilities for life-science start-ups, announces the relocation of BioLabs Heidelberg to its new home at the newly constructed building in Nikola-Tesla-Street on the Heidelberg Innovation Park (HIP campus). The new space is designed as a launchpad for the most promising and innovative start-ups in the fields of health and life sciences, offering almost 10 times the space of the temporary site.

Johannes Frühauf, CEO of BioLabs, is thrilled to announce “I’m very excited to celebrate the opening of our new BioLabs site in Heidelberg. It is our ambition to be a partner in transforming Heidelberg into a leading center for translational biotechnology in Germany, and today’s expansion of our BioLabs site marks a big step in this direction. This transformation will benefit patients through faster cures, and it will benefit the citizens of this region through job creation and economic opportunities. We are grateful to our partners and sponsors. Special thanks go to the city of Heidelberg and Mayor Wuerzner, whose vision and leadership have been instrumental in making this success possible.”

The team welcomes current residents Anavo Therapeutics, Phialogics, Medraxa, Senara and Lactabico, and extends an invitation to all others to tour the beautifully designed fully permitted and professionally managed incubator that comprises 4- floors of fully built out and equipped wet lab spaces where residents may license from one bench to large private labs. BioLabs expects to create a community of over 15 start-up companies.

Prof. Dr. Eckart Würzner, mayor of the City of Heidelberg, is delighted: “Seeing the BioLabs community grow and evolve shows us that the city of Heidelberg has paved the ground for start-ups. This proves not only the fact that Heidelberg is well-known for its excellence in academia, science, and medicine but also its ranking among the TOP 5 leading regions for start-ups within Germany. The new space/building on the Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip) will enable BioLabs to bring a truly innovative concept to Heidelberg. Thanks to Johannes Fruehauf and his team BioLabs will provide an environment especially for pre-seed and seed life science companies – which closes a gap on the start-up journey from an academic project to an established SME and creates and strengthens the entrepreneurial ecosystem in our region and beyond.

Julia Schaft, Managing Director BioRN, states: “The relocation to the new building gives even more young startups the chance to settle in Heidelberg and becoming part of a vibrant and growing community. Direct access to industry and investors PRESS RELEASE as well as to experienced entrepreneurs is especially valuable for organizations in very early stages of development. We welcome all new tenants in our BioRN network and are looking forward to productive cross-fertilization!”

Ann-Kristin Mueller, Site Director BioLabs Heidelberg, adds: “I am delighted that BioLabs Heidelberg will now have the space it needs to provide its resident companies with the opportunity for flexible growth, strong personal interaction, and dynamic development – all of which are a hallmark of BioLabs operations. The entire team at BioLabs Heidelberg are looking forward to welcoming our new resident start-ups. We are honored to have Boehringer Ingelheim, Merck, AbbVie, Eli Lilly & Company, Sanofi, and Novo Nordisk as strategic partners.”

The Grand Opening will be held in September 2023.
