HEIDELBERG, Germany - June 14, 2022 - Startup Genome's Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) is the world's most comprehensive data-driven startup report. Over 280 entrepreneurial innovation ecosystems and three million startups are featured in this year's 10th anniversary edition of the Startup Genome Report at London Tech Week. The report also includes a ranking of the world's top 140 ecosystems.

Heidelberg Technology Park presented the Mannheim-Heidelberg startup ecosystem in the Startup Genome Report. This reached the top 35 of European ecosystems in the categories "performance" and "knowledge" in a European comparison.

The life sciences, AI and industrial technology sectors were particularly highlighted for their density of talent, support resources and startup activities. "We are very pleased to receive this internationally renowned award," says André Domin, Managing Director of Technologiepark Heidelberg GmbH. "It reflects the vibrancy and success of our startup landscape, creating $2 billion in ecosystem value between July 1, 2019 and December 31, 2021."

Successful startups in the region include IT startup Stocard, AI startup Aleph Alpha, and digital insurance company Getsafe, which raised $93 million in another funding round in October 2021. "Heidelberg and Mannheim are great locations for fast-growing startups like Getsafe. The universities provide us with excellent educated employees and the quality of life is a big plus. In addition, both cities offer a good infrastructure for entrepreneurs," says Christian Wiens, founder and CEO of Getsafe.

"The Mannheim-Heidelberg ecosystem offers young entrepreneurs accelerator programs for life sciences, artificial intelligence and industrial technology," adds Christian Sommer, managing director of NEXT MANNHEIM. "This provides an optimal environment for startups, complemented by early-stage funding from the state of Baden-Württemberg." Heidelberg Startup Partners as well as MAFINEX Gründerverbund also organize business angel speed dating and VC networking events to establish contact with additional financiers.
